GUILDERLAND – Donald L. Garhartt, 69, of Guilderland, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Earl and Viola Garhartt. He was an Albany area resident for all of his life. Mr. Garhartt worked for Bilo Wholesale for 42 years before retiring. He was an avid vegetable gardener and fisherman. He was known to his neighbors as the "Mayor of Dillenbeck Drive." Don is the beloved husband of 45 years to Barbara J. Garhartt. He is the devoted father of Wanda (Robert) Collins of Guilderland, Pamela Warnken of Castleton and Shelly (Alan) Dockey of Knox. He is the brother of Robert Garhartt and Thomas (Joanne) Garhartt, both of Colonie and Viola Brown of Oneonta. He is the cherished grandfather of Gary Robusto, Ryan and Marissa Collins, Samantha, Victoria and Darren Warnken, Jr., and Erika and Dean Dockey. Don is the uncle of Warren "Junie" Sheldrick and several other nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his faithful canine companions, Chester and Cha Cha.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his burial on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Graceland Cemetery, Delaware Ave., Albany. Expressions of sympathy may be made at newcomerfamily.com
