Donald J. Verhagen

SCHENECTADY, NY – Donald J. Verhagen, 84, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Born in Rensselaer, he was the son of the late Peter Verhagen and Emma Downes. He was a graduate of St. John's High School in Albany. Mr. Verhagen was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving his country during World War II. He retired from Nabisco Inc. after 25 years of service. Donald is the beloved husband of 49 years to Dolores C. Verhagen. He is the devoted father of Diane Bailey and Damian, Donald and Daniel (Julie) Verhagen. He is the cherished grandfather of Paddy Bailey and Jonathan, Jack and Emma Verhagen. Also surviving is his sister, Regina (Lawrence) Turino as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his brother, Peter Verhagen and his sisters, Mary Verhagen and Lorraine Couser.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady Help of Christian Cemetery, Glenmont.
