WEST ALBANY_Donald John McCormick , 83, of Albany, passed away April 27, 2016.
He was born March 30, 1933 son of the late Thomas and Gertrude (DeMarsh) McCormick. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He served his country in Korea and was wounded 3 times in two front line engagements, for which he was awarded a Purple Heart.
After his military service Don began his career as an apprentice with IBEW 236 (formerly, Local 724) to become a Master Electrician. After his retirement he become the superintendent of building and grounds for Albany Law School in addition to owning and operating his own business, McCormick Electric.
Don is a former Board Member and President of the So. Colonie Board of Education, a life time member of the Polish-American Citizens Club of Albany, Italian Community Center of Troy. The West Albany Italian Benevolent Society honored Don for over 50 years of service and contributions to his community.
Don was a wonderful kind man, who enjoyed serving his community, was a devoted husband, father, grand-father and most recently great-grandfather. He was an avid golfer, a loyal NY Yankee's Fan and was proud to cheer on his grandchildren in sports. He will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege to know and love him.
On August 4, 1962 he married Lois L. Hoffman at St. Francis De Sales Roman Catholic Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Lois; his children, Karen (Jacques) Begin, Sharon (William) Herald, Tracey (James) Carter; his beloved dog, Diesel; grandchildren, Jason Begin, Joshua (Amanda) Begin his princess, Alexandrea Herald, Dominick Herald, Cameron Carter, Brody Carter; great-grandson, Avery John Begin and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Mary Biance Hoffman; brothers, Thomas Jr. and Robert McCormick; a sister Margaret and his special dogs, Fritz and Bear.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ Our Light Catholic Church on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 10:00 am. There will be no calling hours.
