COHOES- Donald Johnson, 84, of Cohoes, passed away on Thursday May 6, 2010 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Easton, PA and was the son of the late Mary Ebner Kuebler and Howard L. Johnson. Don was a veteran of the US Army during WWII serving with the 771st Tank Battalion in Germany, as Technical Sergeant. Following the war, he was employed for thirty three years with New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, retiring in 1987. Don was a life member of the North Albany American Legion, the Joseph E. Zaloga American Legion Post 1520 and the National Rifle Association. He was a volunteer Sportsman Educational Instructor for over 40 years.
Don was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years , Rita M. Johnson who passed in January of this year.
He is the beloved father of Donald (Mary) Johnson of Colonie, Susan (Ronald) Goldfarb of Albany, Patricia Johnson Doyle of Loudonville, Gail (Thomas) Desrosier of Conn. and the late Robert A. Johnson. Don is the brother of Carole A. Kuebler of Albany. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 8:00 at the New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to Historic St. Mary's Church on Capitol Hill at 9:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
