WATERVLIET – Donald Joseph Bosselman, 72, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Samaritan Hospital, Troy. Born on October 15, 1939 in Troy, he was the son of the late Henry R. Bosselman, Sr. and Agnes (Beauchea) Bosselman.
Donald graduated from the Vincentian Institute in 1957. He was a Vietnam era veteran who served in the U.S. Army from May 1963 and was honorably discharged in May 1965. In 1964, Donald was stationed at Ft. Richardson Alaska and experienced the 9.2 magnitude earthquake. He retired from the NYS Department of Social Services in 1995 after 40+ years of dedicated service.
Donald enjoyed high school sports, and was a super drum corps nut. He was an avid NY Yankees fan and liked traveling and RVing. His hobbies were listening to his scanners and doing puzzle books. Donald also liked computers and the many facets of its operation. He was a man of strong opinion and was always ready with some fatherly pearls of wisdom, mixed with humor. Donald was affectionately known as "Pops" or "Mr. B."
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Helen M. (Danaher) Bosselman; his devoted son, Andrew Karl and his wife Jamie (Badger) Bosselman; loving brother Henry R. "Cookie" Bosselman, Jr. He was the cherished "Grampy" to Tyler Jay and Emma Grace, " the apples of his eye". He is also survived by his extended family, Jason Flynn, Michelle Jehider, Danny Garmley, Stephanie Zapp, several nieces and nephews, and his feline companion Kitty.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Gross and his nurse Gail Salamida, the ICU staff at Samaritan Hospital, especially Tara, Patty and Patrick.
A memorial service will be held promptly on Tuesday 11:30 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A memorial calling time will be held from 11:00 to 11:30 am at the funeral home. Entombment will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Heart Gifts Processing Center, P.O.
