COLONIE, NY – Donald K. Nedeau, Sr., "Mayor of West Albany", "The Barber", "The Black Topper" and "The Bus Driver", passed away with his loving family by his side on Saturday, January 09, 2010 at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Ausable Forks, NY on July 06, 1935, he was the son of the late Paul and Cora (Bell) Nedeau. His served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy. Don was married to his loving late wife, Jean DeRusso for 52 years, until her passing in June, 2008. He is the devoted father of Donna (Harold) Hatfield, Donald Nedeau, Jr. and Monique (Dennis) Kirkpatrick. He is the Pop-Pop of Donna and Michael Hatfield, Donald Nedeau, III and Kristy and D.J. Kirkpatrick. On December 18th he became the great-grandfather of "Our Little Angel", Hannah Jean. Don is also survived by his brother, Charlie (Gloria) Nedeau and his sisters, Carol (the late Chick) Rozonewski and Sandy (Richie) Brady. He was predeceased by his brother, William Nedeau. Don is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Don will always be remembered for his love of sports. He played a big role in the start of St. Francis de Sales girl's softball league in 1967. He was a manager for St. Francis de Sales Little League, both to become the West Albany Athletic Association. You would often find him supporting his grandchildren's sporting events. Many will also remember Don for giving them their first haircuts in West Albany at Don's Barber Shop. Don may have paved your driveway as he began Don's Paving. He may also have driven you to and from school as your bus driver from South Colonie. Don may be remembered as the "Mayor of West Albany" always ready for a cold beer as he visited many friends at the local taverns. Don unfortunately left West Albany a few years ago. His life ended with many new friends in Schodack and Castleton. A special remembrance to the outstanding and caring staff of Resurrection Nursing Home and St. Peter's Hospital for the care they gave to Don.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 9:15 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Christ Our Light Catholic Church(the former St. Francis de Sales), 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville at 10:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.
