ALBANY-Donald L. Letzelter, age 93, peacefully passed Monday, January 4, 2021 in his sleep.
Don was predeceased by his parents: Frank and Mildred Letzelter of Rensselaer; his brother, Joseph Letzelter and his two sisters: Ann M. Cook and Joyce Letzelter, whom he dearly loved and spoke of often.
Don is survived by his sister in law, Shirley Letzelter; his nephew: Joseph P. (Dianne) Letzelter; nieces: Pamela (Al Madonna) Payette and Cindy (Mike) Smith; great grand nephews: Joseph P. Letzelter III MD of Washington, Justin Payette, Dalton Payette, Michael Smith and Nicolas Smith; great grand nieces: Heather Payette, Brianna Letzelter of Texas and Haley Smith; great great grand nephew, Austin Payette and great great grand nieces: Gabby Marshall, Karma Lynn Peno and Lexi Sargent.
Don loved deeply and cherished his family.
He also was very appreciative of his cousin, Margaret McCullough of Rensselaer who was greatly comforting in his care at Rosewood Nursing Home. He received wonderful care by the staff as well.
Don also cherished his friends: Tim and Barbara Crowe and their children, Timothy J. Crowe, Dr. Sarah Crowe Pickens (Zach), Katherine Pickens (Albert), also Anthony Calsolaro, William Beecher, Palm Springs, Gary Almy, AZ, Steve and Karen Lawlor, Mike Buff, Gary Terziani, Mary Beth Metzger, (both of whom were greatly comforting in his stay at Rosewood), Jeanne Calsolaro, along with countless others for their kindness and support.
Don was employed by Hamilton News from 1948 to 1958 and Williams Press from 1958 to 1972. He also worked for NYS Department of Correctional Services before retirement in 2008.
He was with Emmanuel Community from 1972 to 1996. These were 24 wonderful years in his life.
Don is often described by everyone he interacted with as one of the most wonderfully kind and gentle persons they have known. He inspired! He was always supporting and comforting, witty and humorous. He simply loved all he met. He donated anonymously to veterans, police, churches, medical research, children in need and too too many to list.
Don wanted to live his life for God and he did.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell Street, Albany, NY 12208. Face masks and social distancing practices are required. Interment will follow in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.
