ALBANY - Donald N. Miller,83, of Albany passed away peacefully on Friday January 2, 2015 at St. Peter's Hospital.
Born and raised in Albany, he was the second of Grant & Dorothy Miller's three children, and loving husband to the late Rita M. Miller.
A true native son, Don was a life-long resident of Albany, graduating from Albany High School and then Hudson Valley Community College before starting his career with the State of New York as a mechanical estimator from which he retired in 1994 after 28 years of service.
Donald was also a veteran having served proudly in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War. His dedication to country and service of others continued throughout his life, with special consideration given to organizations and causes he felt close to such as Our Savior's Lutheran School and Church and the U.S.S. Slater in particular.
Don was passionate about sports. Playing and spending time with his friends from the Capital District Senior Softball League and the State Architect's Bowling League was a significant part of his life. Always humble about his athletic accomplishments, Don valued sportsmanship, competition and contributing to a winning team above any individual accolade he may have earned.
He was the much beloved father to Brett and Reid Miller, cherished father-in-law to Ellen Miller, and proud grandfather of Connor and Hannah Miller.
Don is predeceased by his brother Jack and the sister Beverly (Junco). He was also blessed to have Joan Hotaling as a loving friend and companion during the final years of his life.
Those wishing to remember Donald in a special way may make memorial contributions in his name to: Our Saviors Lutheran School, 63 Mountain View Ave. Albany, NY 12205.
