Donald Ladd Moyer, 76, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021, after a courageous battle with complications resulting from cancer treatment.
Don was the devoted husband of over 42 years to Susan B. Moyer and they shared a beautiful life together.
Don was born in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx where his father owned a candy store. He attended Hobart College and received a teaching degree from Westfield State College. Don taught History and English until starting Mountain Greenery Plant Service in 1986 where he served his clients for over 35 years.
Don was an accomplished poet with work published in The New Yorker, Poetry, Harpers Bazaar, Antaeus, The Massachusetts Review, PoetTalk and Rolling Stone Magazine. He was the author of many books including: When, The Old Witch Winks, and The Stream. He had artist residencies at the Ossabaw Island Writers' Retreat and MacDowell, where notable writers from around the globe gather to draw inspiration from the natural beauty of the surroundings and create art.
In his early years, Don was a free-spirit and an adventurer who traveled the US and Mexico by train. Don loved spending time at home with family, classical and jazz music, model trains, and his beloved dogs, Henri, Little Louis, Camille and Frenchie. He loved the Yankees and watching games with his son, Nicholas.
Don was a voracious reader and writer, dedicated to constant learning. Don was loved by his clients and community of lifelong friends. He is known for his gentle and kind soul.
Don is survived by his wife, Susan, son, Nicholas, and daughter, Kathryn.
Don was the son of the late Howard Moyer and Sally (Alper) Moyer.
A memorial service will be held in Schenectady's Central Park Rose Garden on July 10, 2021, at 12 p.m. (https://schenectadyrose.org) If you require a chair, you may bring your own.
