VOORHEESVILLE - Donald Led Duke, 64, passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday morning. Born August 2, 1946 in Albany, he is the son of the late Rodney Led Duke and Isabel Vogel Led Duke.
Don was a lifelong resident of the Capital District, an area he loved and called home. From his humble beginnings as a brick layer in 1983 he went on to create BBL Construction, one of the most successful and respected construction/development firms in Upstate New York. Don always felt a strong need to give back to the community. He holds a very special place in his heart for the US Armed Services personnel and Public Safety Officials. Don made it a priority to actively participate on a personal level with many regional and state causes, including Signal 30 Foundation, created to help families of fallen state troopers.
Though Don is well known for his business accomplishments, his true passion and love was for his family. He was a devoted family man, loving husband and father whose happiest moments were spending time at the family lake house with his grandchildren, or going to Giants games with his sons.
Don will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 44 years, Mary Louise "Chick", sons, Donald (Cheri), Spencer (Melissa), Scott (Lisa), and Slade and his eight grandchildren, Ava, Ian, Austin, Ashley, Spencer, Shawn, Natalie and Amelia. He is the brother of Dennis (Gail) Led Duke and the late Daniel R. Led Duke. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 3 to 9 pm at Mater Christi Parish (former St. Catherine of Siena), New Scotland &Hurst Ave., Albany. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 at Historic St. Mary's Church, Lodge & Pine St. Albany. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
In keeping with Don's wishes and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to NYS Troopers PBA Signal 30 Benefit Fund, 120 State Street Suite 2, Albany, NY 12207 or the Isabelle V. Led Duke Scholarship Fund, c/o Siena College, 515 Loudon Rd. Loudonville, NY 12211.
