Colonie – Donald R. MacCabe, 82, of Colonie, passed away on Saturday May 17, 2014 at Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital.
He was born in Albany and graduated from Albany High School. Don attended HVCC and Siena College. He served in the US Navy aboard the destroyer-class USS Dickson during the Korean Conflict. Don worked as a draftsman for NYS DOT for over thirty years. He spent the early years of his retirement traveling the country in an RV, with an affinity for Texas. Don was interested in military history especially the US Civil War.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robinson and Jean Blair MacCabe; his brother George and his half-brother Mason MacCabe who died in WWII.
Don is survived by his wife, Frances Trossbach MacCabe; his children Kathleen (Mark) Sterling, Michael and Joseph MacCabe. He is the grandfather of Joshua and Matthew Sterling.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Donald R. MacCabe.
