COLONIE-Donald G. Rappold, 82 passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at Albany Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Donald was born and raised in Castleton the son of the late Paul and Hermina Septer Rappold. He resided in the Colonie area most of his life. Donald was a championship bow hunter and past president of the Kodiak Bow Hunter's Club. He also was an avid fisherman and hunter, whether for competition or with his sons and grandchildren. In addition, he was also a member of Elks Watervliet #1500. Donald served in the Army National Guard in the Signal/Radio section. Donald was employed by Bryant Lumber Company as a Teamster with Local 294 for over 30 years. He also worked for Gabry's Marine and Van DeLoo Shaker Fencing until his recent illness.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, whom he married on May 21, 1955, Esther Clouse Rappold of Colonie. He is the loving father of Donald S. (Eileen) Rappold of Niskayuna, Christopher W. (Teresa) Rappold of Loudonville and James J. Rappold of Colonie. He is the loving grandfather of Erin E. Rappold (fiancé Seth Torrice), Timothy S. Rappold, Justin C. Rappold and Jeffrey G. Rappold. Donald is also survived by his brother Joseph P. (Judy) Rappold of Castleton, sisters in law Virginia Douglas, Mary Jane Fabian, Julia Clouse, Mary Ann McCarville, Margaret Clouse and Judy Clouse; several nieces and nephews and many cherished friends.
The family would like to thank the sixth floor nursing staff at Albany Memorial Hospital, Albany Gastroenterology Group, New York Oncology/Hematology, and the staff of Community Hospice of Rensselaer. Special thanks to Glen Cooper and Gary Walker at Albany Memorial Hospital for their compassion and emotional support.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville.
Interment will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Coeymans.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Albany Memorial Hospital's Hospice Care Enhancement Fund, Northeast Health Foundation, 2224 Burdett Ave. Troy, NY 12180 in memory of Donald.
