Donald J. VanWormer

Altamont- Donald J. VanWormer, 55, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of Grace Brown and the late Frederick VanWormer. Donald is survived by his wife of 28 years, Cynthia (Genis) VanWormer. 

Donald was a huge part of CSX and loved the railroad where he dedicated 20+ years of his life and made many awesome friends who he talked about frequently.

Donald was an avid fan of nature, loved hunting, fishing, camping, target practicing outside with family. If he wasn't out in nature, his favorite indoor activity was making homecooked meals for his family to enjoy where he appreciated the title "Chef Don". If he wasn't doing any of the above, he would be cuddling with Gunner on the couch and watching TV.

Donald loved his family immensely and would do anything to guide, teach, and provide for them. He will be greatly missed and we will always love him very much.

In addition to his wife and mother, Donald is survived by his daughter, Courtney VanWormer, and loving dog, Gunner.

Calling hours will be held Friday, October 18, 2024 from 4pm-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. A funeral service will be held on Saturday the 19th at 11am at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Ln, Latham, NY 12110, in Donald's name.
