ALBANY- Donald R. Warner, 81, of Albany, passed way on Saturday January 13, 2007 after a brief illness. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Frederick and Ann Warner. Don was a resident of Albany for most of his life. He served in the US Marine Corp during WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient.
Don was a member of the Albany Police Dept for several years and then worked construction with the Bohl Construction company during the South Mall project in Albany . In later years, he was a courier with Albany Associates in Cardiology where he developed many cherished friends and associates. Don earned tremendous enjoyment and satisfaction as one of the original dedicated volunteers that created the Police Athletic League Holiday Lights in the Park. He enjoyed fishing and camping at Pecks Lake in Gloversville. Don was a member of the Sheehy-Palmer VFW Post and Past Exalted Ruler of the Cobleskill Elks. He was predeceased in 2005 by his beloved wife Virginia Warner.
Don is the beloved father of Donna Grebert (Robert), Barbara Warner, Albert Warner (Darlene), Richard Warner (Laura). Father in law of Echo Warner. Grandfather of Scott, Kerry, John, James, Matthew, Joshua, Jennie, Kristen, Jill, Justin, Kyle, Lake and Clay. He is also survived by his sister in law Dolores Garret; his lifelong friend Frederick Schultz; his loving cousin Kathleen Bortell and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his devoted canine companion, Sam.
Relatives and friends are invited and my call on Monday from 5 to 7 pm at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt 155-south of Central Ave). A service of remembrance will be celebrated at 7:00 pm on Tuesday. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Albany Police Athletic League, 165 Henry Johnson Blvd. Albany NY 12210 in memory of Donald R. Warner.
