Donato Direnzo

December 29, 1949 — August 7, 2014

Tony passed away on Thursday evening, August 7th, after a courageous two and a half year battle with lung cancer. At the time of his death he was surrounded by his loving wife Debbie, his three daughters, MaryAnne, Kristen and Suzanne and his sister Mary Rose.

He was born in Syracuse, New York and was a graduate of St. Lucy's Academy. Shortly after graduating he enlisted in the United States Army where he served proudly in Germany. In 1974 he married the love of his life, Debbie Hopkins. They were happily married for 40 years. He retired from Verizon after 30 years and they moved to The Villages in Florida.

He became an avid golfer and was sure to be out on the golf course at every given opportunity. He had a great zest for life and lived it to the fullest. He loved the Yankees, Syracuse Basketball, Disney World and cooking delicious feasts for all to enjoy. He was a loyal friend and generous to a fault. His sense of humor and dry wit were enjoyed by all who knew him. But his passion and greatest love was his family. Those of us who loved him were held to a higher standard. Not because he was judgmental but by his example. Always a kind and gentle soul, he will be remembered as an honorable man who loved his family, his friends and life.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Roseann DiRenzo.
Surviving are his loving wife Debbie and his three beautiful daughters, MaryAnne Roberts (Nathan), Kristen Charbonneau (Joe), and Suzanne DiRenzo all of Albany; three grandchildren, Josephine Charbonneau, Lucas and Jacob Roberts; his devoted sister, Mary Spinelli and his cherished mother-in-law Marilyn Hopkins, as well as many beloved sister and brother in-laws, nieces, nephews and a wonderful circle of friends.

Tony's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of his amazing doctors, Dr. El Jassous, Dr. Flink and Dr. Alvarez.
Services will be privately held at the convenience of the family.
Contributions in memory of Tony may be made to Hospice of Marion County, PO Box 4860 Ocala, FL 34478 or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123-1718.
