ALTAMONT
Doris "Dori" Ellen Bode (nee Knowles) passed away at her home in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. on August 4, 2021, at age 86.
In 2009, she was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Dr. William G. Bode D.D.S., for whom she worked as a chair-side assistant and office manager at his practice on Western Avenue in Albany for 35 years. The daughter of George Knowles and Myrtle Duncan of Cooksburg, Dori was the youngest of seven siblings.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Knowles Buel, and was predeceased by Al Knowles, Marjorie Knowles Dahl, Raymond Knowles, and stepsisters, Bertha Knowles Duncan and Anna Knowles. Al's wife, Greta, always has been as close as a sister. Dori was the mother of Jo Quinlan and Patricia Quinlan Atkinson from her first marriage to Jerry Quinlan; and stepmother of William's children by his first wife, Jean Lewis Bode, Jacky Bode Marston, Frank Bode and Graham Bode.
She was the beloved grandmother of Devon Atkinson, David Bode, Jeffrey Bode, Danielle Bode and Hannah Bode. Dori and Bill enjoyed an active retirement, summering in Altamont and wintering in Palm Beach Gardens. As a member of the North Palm Beach Country Club, Dori won many golf tournaments in her league. Her passions included bridge, entertaining, reading, writing poetry and supporting the arts. She had a vast knowledge of song lyrics and loved to challenge her family to "Name That Tune" competitions during long car rides. She was particularly fond of Maine and enjoyed several vacations there with close friend, Ruth Malossi and family members.
A celebration of Dori's life will take place on October 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Appel Inn, 590 State Route 146, Altamont.
