GUILDERLAND – Doris C. "Mickey" Tomajer passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Frankfort, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen Callahan.
Mickey graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1954 with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics. She taught for Mayfield School District until becoming a stay-at-home mother for her children. Mickey would periodically substitute teach for the Guilderland School District as well. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, doing puzzles, playing Scrabble, and traveling to Ireland. Mickey was also an active communicant of the Parish of Christ the King Church in Westmere.
Along with her parents, Mickey was predeceased by her sister, Jean Adams.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years , Charles R. Tomajer; children Colleen Abbate, Tim Tomajer, and Tracey Tomajer; cherished grandchildren Meghan and Michael Abbate, and brothers Larry (Dolores) and Jim (Betty) Callahan. Sixteen nieces and nephews also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Avenue, Westmere. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church. The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather at 4:30 p.m. at the church for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
