Doris E. DeVita, 88, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Doris was born in Albany, NY to the late Casper and Margaret (Lenhardt) Schaffer.
She graduated from Roessleville High School in 1944 and began her working career at the Nabisco Company. For over 20 years she was the Capital District Branch Manager for Stanley Home Products. In 1982 she became the Director of Volunteers for Memorial Hospital and retired in 1995. Doris had many interests and dedicated years of community service. In 2013 Doris was the recipient of a Senior Lifetime Achievement Award from the Capital District Senior Issues Forum among other honors.
In addition to her parents, Doris is predeceased by her beloved husband William M. DeVita, her sister Esther F. Marchand, and her brother Casper E. Schaffer.
Doris is survived by her beloved children; William (Antonia Lasicki) DeVita and Joy (Russell Vadney) DeVita. She is the cherished grandmother of Christine DeVita-Zwack. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Beverly Schaffer, nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews whose lives she loved to share.
Dorey treasured her family and many lifelong friends, including her longtime friend Jack Walsh. She lived her life with faith, extraordinary grace, heart-driven spirit and an infectious sense of humor. Her vibrant spirit and sense of adventure inspired many. Dorey is remembered for her warm and gracious smile.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church, 160 Central Avenue, Albany, New York.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 28th from 3 pm to 8 pm, at the New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, New York.
Interment will follow the service in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Colonie.
