SCHENECTADY - Doris E. (Novak) Scavia, 95, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 4th, 2016, surrounded by the caring staff at Kingsway Nursing Home. Born February 23, 1920, in Somerville, MA, the daughter of the late Dortha and William Novak.
After her retirement from The United Way as a bookeeper, "Aunt Doris" spent many enjoyable hours with her husband Edward Scavia (who died in 2004) at their summer home on Copeland Pond where she became fast friends with her lakeside neighbors. Her sunny outlook on life and her mischievous nature charmed everyone she met. She possessed a kind and gentle soul.
"Aunt Doris" was pre-deceased by her twin brother, Donald, Hudson Falls, NY and her brother Earl of Nichols, NY. Her brother Russell died in infancy.
She is survived by her nieces Carol Novak Gundersen, Saratoga Springs, NY, Lynn (James) Giles of South Glens Falls, NY, Dorothy Novak, of Troy, NY and Janice (John) Solan, of Montgomery NY; nephews Darald (Diane) Novak of Albany, NY, Bill (Pat) Novak of Eastpointe, MI, great nephew Brendan (Renee) Gundersen of Ridgefield CT; and numerous other great and great, great nieces and nephews.
