Doris Edna (Best) Sodergren, 91, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2014 at Kingsway Manor in Schenectady, New York.
A native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Doris was born November 24, 1922 to the late James and Grace (Stiles) Best. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in the class of 1938. Following graduation Doris worked for General Electric in Pittsfield as an executive secretary. After marrying and starting a family,
Doris worked as secretary to the Rector of St. Stephen's Church in Pittsfield. Her family moved to Schenectady in 1970 after which she worked for Belleview Hospital has an executive secretary.
Doris was united in marriage for 70 years with Oscar F. Sodergren. They enjoyed traveling and loved being with family and friends. Doris was active in the church through out her life. She was also an active member of Eastern Star and achieved the position of Grand Matron.
Her brothers, Ralph and James, Jr, predeceased her. Doris is survived by her husband, Oscar F. Sodergren; her children, Erica J. Weinstock, Enid S. Oberholtzer, Vern O. Sodergren, and Olin F. Sodergren; her grandchildren, Beth Weinstock, Jason Oberholtzer, Danielle and Brandon Sodergren, and Erikson and Lukas Sodergren; her step grandchildren, Rachel and Emily; and her step great grandchildren, Samuel and Benjamin.
A Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Church in Burnt Hills on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.
Inturnment will be private at the convenience of the family.
