NEW SCOTLAND – Doris M. Abbott, 97, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. She had been a resident of The Springs Nursing Home in Troy for the past three years.
Doris was born on September 12, 1913 in Andes, NY and was the daughter of the late, Frank and Alma (Weaver) Tremper. She worked as a clerk for Myers Department Store and then Macy's for many years. She was an exceptional homemaker and enjoyed sewing clothes for the entire family. She loved her garden and was a member of the Ladies Red Hat Society, the Ladies Aid Society of the Dutch Reformed Church of New Salem and the New Salem Home Bureau. Our mom should be remembered as a loving and caring person who often thought of others before herself.
Doris is survived by her loving children, K. Jean (Michael) Zelezniak, Charlotte (Horst) Lichtenberg, Virginia Coleman and Richard (Betty) Abbott; her grandchildren, Susan Zelezniak-Eichenbaum, Sharon and Stephen Zelezniak, Carl and Reiner Lichtenberg, Sherry Miller, Dawn Coleman, Gary, Todd, and Mark Abbott, and Debra Henson; 18 great grandchildren, Devan, Matthew, and Nicholas Zelezniak, Sarah and Joshua Eichenbaum, Tyler and Brittany Lichtenberg, Andrew Pentengill, Haley and Chase Ennis, Brian, Alysha, James, Jared Abbott, and Julian, Kiera, Keeley, and Jada Henson and two great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth E. Abbott; her sisters, Wilma Robertson, Dorothy Ruff, and Olive Tremper and her brother, Willis Tremper.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
