RENSSELAER- Betty Battles Bauer, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday October 28, 2006. Born Dorothea Elizabeth Sacher, daughter of the late Florence Gow and George Sacher, August 28, 1913 in her beloved Pittsburgh, PA. Betty graduated from East High School in Cleveland, OH and was an elevator operator at the Gulf Building in Pittsburgh before her marriage December 27, 1943 to Harold E. Bauer. She was a resident of Rensselaer all of her married life. Her beloved Harold predeceased her on October 31, 1997.
Betty was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She dedicated her life to serving her family, church and friends and sharing her faith in Jesus Christ. She was a mischievous, energetic person who taught Sunday School, entertained missionaries and other church visitors and lastly manned the switchboard at Pineview Community Church while in her 70's. She served on the board of the Women's Auxiliary at the Capital City Rescue Mission for several years and was an active member of the community. Never too busy to spend time listening to others, she was a wise counselor.
Betty is survived by two children, Paul (Elaine) Bauer of Brunswick and Susan (Lyle) Hover of Schenectady. Beloved grandmother of Jennifer Bauer of Brunswick and Airman First Class David Bauer of Monterey, CA, Tamara (Chris) Briggs of Cooperstown, Jeremy Hover of New York City, Nathan (Lisa) Hover of Ballston Spa, Adam and Michael Hover of Schenectady. She also has four great grandchildren, Caitlin, Noah, Joshua and Andrew Briggs of Cooperstown and two step great grandchildren Ben and Alex Angerami of Ballston Spa. Aunt of Robert Jr., Samuel, Timothy, Dennis and John Battles. She was predeceased by her only brother Robert W. Battles Sr. and his wife Olive.
The family wishes to thank all of the caring staff at Teresian House Carmel Gardens and Nursing Home. You truly were Jesus in the flesh to our Mom and Grandma.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 10:00 at Pineview Community Church, 251 Washington Ave Extension, Albany. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in Bloomingrove Cemetery, Defreestville. Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Missions Foundation, PO Box 525, Wynantskill, NY 12198.
