Dorothea P. Wilmot

April 3, 1921 — February 6, 2014

NISKAYUNA – Dorothea P. Wilmot, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 6, 2014 with her cherished family and friends at her side. Born in Albany on April 3, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Pessolano, M.D. and Florita d'Dominicis.

Dorothea was an accomplished artist, having painted many beautiful seascapes and landscapes. She spent six months in Italy where she painted many beautiful scenes of Positano and surrounding areas. Dorothea also enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting. Her greatest love by far was her family and many dear friends. She will always be remembered and cherished for her kind, loving, gentle, caring and generous ways. To the very end, Dorothea lived a life full of spirit without ever complaining or mentioning her illness. She was truly a pillar of courage, strength and beauty. Dorothea always dressed beautifully and was the epitome of elegance, refinement, graciousness and charm as well as the ultimate hostess.

Along with her parents, Dorothea was predeceased by her beloved husband Walter (Walt) S. Wilmot.

She will be missed by sons Gearon "Gary" Kimball (Maureen) of Niskayuna and Greg Kimball of Fort Lauderdale; step-daughters Lynn Vitalone (Dick) of New Jersey and Sandra Bryant (Paul) of Louisiana; step-son William Lange of Savannah, Ga.; sister Florita Hedderman of Albany; grandchildren Karim Becker (Jamie Pastiglione) and Jill Gromko (Derek); great-grandchildren Braxton, Bryn, Quinn, Reagan and Taylor; three nephews and many dear friends, including Maria Keresy, Steve Becker, Christina Ardito and Amy Donnelly.

Dorothea and her family extend a special thanks to the wonderful caregivers from Home Instead and the Schenectady Hospice who provided her with gentle, compassionate and loving care to the very end.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 12:00 pm at New Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A memorial calling hour will precede the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
