Dorothy "Dotty" Cranston Yoder passed away on Monday October 3, 2016 at 92 years of age.
Dotty was born in Troy, NY to Stanley and Agnes Cranston of Schaghticoke, NY. She grew up in the Woodlawn section of Schenectady, and graduated in 1942 from Mont Pleasant High School. Dotty also attended Mildred Elley Business School. She enjoyed her childhood in Woodlawn, and happy memories of that time sustained her throughout her life.
Dotty worked as a clerk for General Electric in the accounting department during the Second World War, during which time she met Sergeant Robert A. Yoder of Illinois, a Marine. In 1946 they were married and Robert joined the army and eventually became a Colonel. Being an "army wife," Dotty lived in several states in the U.S. and also in Puerto Rico, before retiring to Niskayuna, NY in 1970.
Dotty's family will miss her greatly, but we are also able to find solace in the peaceful and timely circumstances of her loss. She lived a fantastic life full of love, family, and adventure. Dotty truly loved people and she was genuine with them and made them laugh with her sense of humor. She enjoyed ice cream, cake, and candy and always sought to live life to the fullest and experience all that this world had to offer; she succeeded in her goals.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. James A. Yoder of Carrollton, GA and Dr. Robert C. Yoder of Niskayuna; her favorite daughter in law, Diane Emmons Yoder, and her grandchildren Rachael and Harrison Yoder. She loved all of her Schenectady friends as well, especially her dear friend Mary Purvis.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful compassionate people at Kingsway Community.
We will miss you, Mom and we will all love you forever.
