COLONIE-Dorothy (Dottie) Cook passed on to eternal life on June 24, 2018, at home as she wished, surrounded by her family. Born Dorothy Jane Leitch on March 25, 1925 to Robert D. and Marion G. Leitch, she was predeceased by her husband William R. Cook and siblings Elaine Levesque and Robert Leitch. She is survived by her children William (Barbara) Cook, Susan (Jeffrey) Solomon, Russell (Betty) Cook, and Claudia (John) Rejack. She is also survived by grandchildren Robert and Eric Cook, Danielle Laraway, Sara and Mia Solomon, Rebecca Solomon, David and Jason Cook, Joseph and Amanda Trance, Jennifer Lorenz, Stephanie Trombly, and Heather Gaugler, as well as great grandchildren Mikayla, Mackenzie, Eviana, Arelia, Aimee, Shaylynn, Amy, Lana, Sierra, Makenzie, Zayden, Anthony, Adriana, Ethan, Corey, Grayden and two more expected soon. Also survived by her sister, Marion Fuchs, and cousin, Norma Unverhau and many nieces, nephews and their children.
Dottie worked for many years in the NYS Tax Department, retiring to take care of her husband in 1987. She was a longtime member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She had also been active in the Colonie Village Senior Citizens, where she loved quilting, and in earlier years was a member of the Colonie Village Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She will be remembered most for her sense of humor and always being ready with a smart answer. She never lost her childish sense of wonder and play. Delighting in seeing "diamonds" in the snow and playing hopscotch, blowing bubbles or catching a ball with her great-grandchildren. Even in her final years when her memory was fading and her body growing old, she was always ready to join in the fun and kick up her heels.
The family would like to thank the Bright Horizons program for all the care and social activities they provided and the many friends she made there. We would also like to thank the congregation of Pine Grove United Methodist Church for their many prayers and all the support offered. In lieu of flowers, Dottie had requested donations be made to the Shriner's Hospital,
https://donate.lovetotherescue.org or Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Office of Development, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
