TROY – Dorothy "Dodie" A. Skaarup, 68, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Samaritan Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Rensselaer, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Dorothy Mae (Sutton) Stocklas. Dodie worked as a beautician for over 30 years at Budget Cut in Lansingburgh. She was known for her compassion and kind heart. Dodie enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, Dale Earnheart and most of all her pets.
Dodie married the love of her life Raymond F. Skaarup. They shared 44 years together. Dodie was the beloved mother of Carl (Georgeanne) Mason of Cropseyville, Barb Severance of Troy, Wayne (Michelle) Skaarup of Arizona and Raymond T. Skaarup of Georgia. She was Mema to Matthew, Timothy, Carl Jr., Kyleigh, Anthony, Kierstin, Alexis and Kimberly and three great grandchildren. She was the sister of David, Robert, Irene, Mary Lou, Betty-Jean and the late John "Jack", Joseph, Andrew, and Michael. She is also survived by her loving Aunt Pat and Uncle Steve Smith and her very best friend, VeraJean Murray.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours and no service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, One Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110 or to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204 in memory of Dodie.
