GUILDERLAND – Dorothy E. "Dee" Burns, 69, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at home. Born in Houston, TX, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Dorothy (Dykeman) Sheehan. Dee was a resident of Guilderland for 50 years.
Dee graduated from Vincentian High School, and Mildred Elley Business School. She started her career at Loritex Industries as a secretary, and retired as the office manager at Town and Country Computer Services in Guilderland. Dee was a parishioner of St. Madeleine Sophie Church in Guilderland. She was Secretary/Treasurer of the Boy Scouts program, and volunteered for the Christ Child Society Blanket Program. Dee helped many senior citizens compile their taxes and Medicare Claims. She was also very active with the Guilderland High School cross country and running program. She loved skiing, camping, and hiking.
Dee is survived by her husband of 50 years, Denis J. Burns; children Michael (Kelly) Burns of Corinth, Kevin (Erin) Burns of Saranac Lake, and Kathy (Glenn) Dow of Midlothian, VA; seven grandchildren; siblings Martin (Joyce) Sheehan and Kathy (Ken) Wilkes, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, Guilderland. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland.
In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
