ALBANY – Dorothy Springsteen, born on September 7, 1938, died on February 14, 2008 after a brief illness at home surrounded by her children. She resided in Albany at the time of her death. She was employed at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center and was employed for 36 years before her retirement in 1993. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and she was a very devoted mother.
Dorothy was also one of Jehovah's Witnesses and she enjoyed devoting time to the ministry. She enjoyed traveling and lived a very full life.
Dorothy is survived by four daughters, Sharon Penfield, Brenda Springsteen, Michelle Powers and Cynthia Griffin; one son, Lawrence Derek Springsteen; her mother, Hazel Carey of Louisiana; five sisters, Marie Woodard, Ann Lee, Betty Gullion, Marilyn Combs and Barbara Carey and one brother, Johnnie Ray Carey. She is also survived by her very special aunt and uncle, Walter and Myrtle Patrice; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Edward Springsteen; her father, Luther Carey and her brother, Ronald Carey.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 25, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 30 Manchester Circle, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
