Dorothy Kingston

May 1, 1959 — May 15, 2020

Dorothy McGrath Kingston, 61, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 15, 2020, with her beloved children by her side. Dorothy was born May 1, 1959, in Richmond, NY and she is the daughter of the late Lawrence and Anna Margaret McGrath.

Being a mother was the primary joy of her life. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Shannon Malark (Isaiah Johnson), son, Nicholas Kingston (Cecilia Hassett), and her beloved grandson, Julian Davis. She also leaves behind her much-loved John, Jack, Jenna, and Aiden Rysendorph.

Dorothy is also survived by her sisters; Pat Kabir (Mohammed), Deborah Doyle (Carol), Ann Marie Beary (Joe), and Elizabeth McGrath. Dorothy is survived by her nieces and nephews, James Recabo (Elizabeth), Danielle Betancourt (Sergio), Sharif Kabir (Alison), and Arif Kabir, and Paul Pastore.

Dorothy had a beautiful, vibrant spirit and shared her heart with everyone that knew her. She loved to travel with her family and friends. Dorothy's most recent excursions were to Iceland, South America, Rome and Greece. She spent many nights around the poker table taking chips and smiles from her competition. Dorothy had a generous spirit and loved animals; she took care of many adored pets in her lifetime, and donated to many different animal charities over the years.

Dorothy was a friend of Bill W. for 34 years. She often said that it was through this program, and her love of God, that she learned to be the person she wanted to be. "To Thine Own Self Be True" was one of her favorite sayings and she strove to live by this philosophy her whole life.

She was a true and loyal friend and will be terribly missed by the countless people whose lives she touched.

Dorothy graduated from Hudson Valley Community College as an RN and spent most of her career as a mental health nurse. She had a special love for members of that community and worked for many years at hospitals throughout the Capital Region. She was most recently employed by Optum Health.

Honoring Dorothy's wishes, the family is planning a celebration of life in the coming months. Updated details will be announced on the New Comer Funeral Parlor website.

In lieu of flowers or a gathering at this time, donations can be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society
