LOUDONVILLE, NY – Dorothy May Koonz, 80, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2009. She was born in Malta, NY on May 29, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Frederick and Florence (Martin) Freemire. Mrs. Koonz was a resident of Colonie since 1956. Mrs. Koonz owned and operated Midas Muffler in Colonie and more recently, worked at Kiskis Tire Company until her retirement. Dorothy was an accomplished bowler for over 35 years. She loved casino slot machines, snowmobiling and horseback riding. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard C. Koonz. Dorothy is the beloved companion of Lee Fink since 1978. She is the devoted mother of Richard Koonz, Jr. and his wife, Cinda of East Bend, NC, Deborah Stickles and her husband, David of Colonie and Nancy Marhafer and her husband, Guy of Palm Harbor, FL. She is the cherished grandmother of Deanna Stickles-Bach, David Stickles, Zac Marhafer, Richard Koonz, Amanda and Erin Koonz, Rebecka Marhafer and Dylan Marhafer. She is the loving great-grandmother of Brayden Marhafer. Dorothy is the sister of Freda Decker of Clifton Park, NY. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and her best friend and devoted canine companion, "Misty."
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York, Pine West Plaza, Bldg. 4, Suite 405, Washington Ave. Extension, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Dorothy M. Koonz.
