Dorothy M. VanVranken, 89, of Albany, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2016.
She was born on March 12, 1926 to the late Brown and Dorothy (Cauthorne) Robinson.
Dorothy was a kind and loving mother and an excellent cook. She worked as a Ward Manager at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC until she retired in 1989.
She was a member of the Cathedral of All Saints in Albany. From 1989 to 2009 Dorothy lived at the Colonie Terrace Apartments where she was the Assistant Resident Director. She and her good friend Eula White used to enjoy taking walks together in the morning. Dorothy enjoyed volunteering to help organize many activities for the residents, trips to the casinos and was on call for residents if they had any troubles. She enjoyed taking boat rides, going shopping, playing cards and BINGO.
Dorothy was the mother of Terrence White and Theodore Burke, grandmother to Ronald Burke and Elizabeth Burke. She is also survived by her 3 great-grandchildren; her nieces, Patricia Fuller, Barbara Fuller and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents and her 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016 from12-1 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. A Memorial Service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at 1pm at New Comer Funeral Home.
