Dorothy Meyette

June 8, 1946 — November 6, 2015

COLONIE – Dorothy "Dottie" M. Meyette, 69, of Albany, passed away peacefully on November 6th, 2015 at her home.
Dorothy was born and raised in Saratoga Springs, New York. After graduating from Saratoga High School, she moved to Albany to attend the Mildred Elley Secretarial School. During her time in school, she lived with the Goldstein family as a nanny to their three children. She took great pride in knowing that she was able to put herself through school while working for the Goldstein family.
In 1969, Dorothy married Walter F. Meyette. Following his premature death in 1974, she devoted her life to raising their two daughters and caring for her mother-in law. While their time together was short her love for him endured throughout her lifetime.
She briefly worked for The New York State Department of Education before starting her thirty plus year career with Niagara Mohawk (National Grid). Throughout her career she held several different positons. In 2002, she retired as the Executive Secretary to the General Manager of the Northeast Region.
Some of her interests and hobbies included golf, bowling, reading, traveling, and cooking. She was passionate about golf and was a member of several golf leagues. Her fondest golf memories include making not one but two hole-in-ones at the Hiawatha Golf Course. While working she enjoyed taking her children on family vacations and cruising with friends. One of her favorite pastimes in retirement was going to The Saratoga Casino and Raceway. If she was not at home chances are she could be found at the racino. QVC and HSN will miss her affinity for at home shopping.
She took extreme pride and joy in maintaining her home. Family and friends were very important to her. She created a loving environment and was welcoming to all. From a pot of homemade sauce and meatballs to homemade chocolate chip cookies, no one ever walked away hungry. From Sunday dinners to holiday gatherings to summer picnics, she took pleasure in sharing her home and herself with her loved ones and those who accompanied them.
Growing up she attended the Middle Grove Methodist Church and as an adult was a member of the Ballston Spa Methodist Church, where she was Sunday school teacher. Throughout her life she found strength and comfort in her belief in God.
Often friends and family sought her guidance. She was a good listener who always gave sound advice and shared wise words. She will be remembered for her compassionate and caring nature by all whose lives she touched.
Dorothy is survived by her two loving daughters Jennifer and Nichole Meyette. Her surviving siblings include Jane Dake, Wanda Seaman, Norma Freeburn, Kathy Mafrici, and Linda Brooks. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Her parents Elmer "Bud" Dake and Nellie "Austin" Dake and her late husband, Walter F. Meyette, predecease Dorothy. Predeceased siblings include Lucille Manzer, Fred Dake, Lorraine Pike and Stanley Dake.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dottie's name towards the American Heart Association or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Organization.
