Dorothy Reed

March 21, 1934 — August 3, 2022

On Wednesday August 3, 2022, Dorothy M. Reed (McGowan) joined her forever husband of almost 70 years, William R. Reed. Having lost Bill in Oct of 2021, she frequently thought about being with her best friend and eternal love.

Dorothy was born in Vermont in 1934 and spent much of her childhood in Schenectady growing up with her 4 sisters until one day at a church retreat, she met Bill. Fate was set in place when both Bill and Dorothy were unable to participate in the outside activities. They spent the day getting to know each other. Shortly later, they were married and set off on their 70-year journey of building their family and sharing their lives together.

Dorothy was born to parents Floyd McGowan and Cecile (Carter) McGowan on March 21, 1934. She dedicated herself to her family as a loving wife and mother. She focused on the management of activities at home and raising her four children. She loved traveling, camping, shopping and time spent with family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her children Robert Reed (Laura), Randall Reed (Jennifer), Diane Jackson (Dave) and Deborah DiNoto (Tim), her grandchildren (Colleen Reed, Ian Reed, Brooke Reed, Erin Weinzapfel, Michael Reed, Lindsey Jackson, Rachael Moquin, Sarah Tate, Dylan DiNoto, Kaleigh DiNoto, and her great grandchildren (Aidan, Mila, Roman, Freya and Ava and more to come soon). Dorothy was predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Barbara Zamjohn, Mary Lou LaRosa, and Marjorie Chase. Her fourth sister, Jeanette (William) Tilly, continues to cherish her memory.

Services for both Dorothy and Bill will be held on a date to be determined at Memory Gardens Chapel, Albany NY, where they will rest, hand in hand, for eternal peace. The family would like to thank their parents/grandparents for their never-ending love, their continued guidance, and the foundation that they had established together to lead the continued generations. Go in Peace Mom and Dad, we all love you.

The family would also like to thank Renee and the entire Hospice Staff for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that a donation be made in their parent's memory to The Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Rd, Albany, NY 12205.
