Dorothy McCullough Simmons, born May 5, 1935 to the late Queen Victoria McCullough ("Sis") and the late Luther Holloway in Greenville, SC.
She relocated to New York with her cousin in love the late Virginia Carolyn Barnes. Easter Sunday 1957, she and her cousin set out to see the sights and she met the late James O. Simmons and they shared a wonderful and loving marriage of 30 yrs.
Dorothy was a free spirited, fun loving, resilient, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Relatively new to the Albany area she met no strangers. Dorothy loved to tell her age, so people could say, you don't look it. This always made her smile. Dorothy enjoyed casinos, word search puzzles, music – Soul Town, Castillo Silver Rum, "the big bottle" as she always wanted enough to share, Manischewitz Peach wine and most importantly making people laugh.
After a very brief illness, and a short stay at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush, Dorothy departed from this life on October 30, 2020.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Clifford Chapman, Greenville SC; two daughters, Wanda Williams (Jeffrey) Rochester, NY and Janet Simmons, Albany, NY; three grandchildren: Chadrick, Synead and Janaye; one great grandson, Chadrick Jr; one stepson, Mitchell Cobbs (April), Columbia, SC; two sisters: Ollie Johnson, Queens, NY and Mary Frances Bailey, Greenville, SC; four sisters-in-laws: Laverne Frett, Syracuse, NY, Fernella Simmons and Irma Brown of St. George, SC, Marie Simmons; special friend, Mary Walton and a host of relatives and friends.
