Dorothy (Dean) was born on May 7th, 1950 in Marion South Carolina to her parents the late Joe & Susie Graves. She was the youngest of four children.Dorothy left South Carolina in the early 1970's where she met her husband John Singleton in New York and started a new life there.
Dorothy had four children; Sherby Graves, Leon Graves Sr., Gwendolyn Owens and Latonia Tolliver.
As Dorothy resided in New York she opened her home to any and every one in need, she became known as "Grandma Dean" to all those who know and love her because she helped to shape and mold the lives of those who came in contact with her. Dorothy lived her life to the fullest and everyone loved her for her for truth and honesty.
She was very blunt and would tell you whatever she wanted you to know at that moment.
She enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, fishing and gardening. Dorothy always knew and loved the Lord from a young age and she passed her love for God to each member of her family.
In June 2017 Dorothy was diagnosed with lung cancer and in February 2019 she was diagnosed with brain cancer which resulted in her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her three siblings; Harold Graves, Maggie Davis and Ernest Graves.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children; Sherby Graves (Chad Thompson), Leon Graves, Gwendolyn Owens (Vincent) and Latonia Tolliver. 23 grandchildren; Jahi Owens, Eljawan Arrington, U-Shawn Chaney, Shadeana Robinson, Jahod Graves, Shadena Oliver, Ashley Singleton, Ladeana McBride, LaKeisha Singleton, Leon Graves Jr., Roberta Singleton, Kenya Singleton, Shadaya Graves, Raven Singleton, Lashawn McBride, Lanaisha Tolliver, Jaleah Owens, Jameir Graves, Laraun Tolliver, Jameelah Owens, Damajae Norton, Leon Martin, Jamal Owens.
10 Great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Viewing hours will be from 10:00 - 11:00am followed by a service on Friday March 1, 2019 at Union Missionary Baptist Church.
