Albany- Van Deusen, Dorothy In love and sorrow, we mourn the loss of Dorothy Van Deusen on June 25, 2022. She was just 25 days shy of her 100th birthday. Born in Colonie NY on July 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ida Berg.
She worked at Albany Medical Center for over 32 years, the majority of which as charge nurse of the Neurosurgery unit. She was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church where she served various times as president, treasurer, and secretary of Christ Church Women.She was an accomplished knitter and delighted in making beautiful Afghans for each of her children and grandchildren. Dorothy loved to travel and visited many countries including China,Australia and Japan. Her favorite place, however, was Old Orchard Beach Maine where she ate lobster, walked the beach at sunrise, collected shells and found peace.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Arthur Van Deusen Sr. and Her brother Richard.
She is survived by her children, Arthur Van Deusen Jr. (Phyllis) of Newmarket NH, Anne Van Deusen Mastro (Robert) of Altamont NY; grandchildren Daniel Van Deusen (Stacie) of Dublin OH, Nathan Mastro (Nicole) of Verona NY, Nicole Jacobson (Michael) of Endicott NY and seven great grandchildren, her brother Willard Berg and many nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to the wonderful staff of Mount Carmel at Teresian House for the care and love they gave her. Per her wishes, services will be private for the immediate family.
