COLONIE, NY – Dorothy "Dot" Welch, 73, of Colonie, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2011 after a lengthy illness, at her home, with her family by her side. Born and educated in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Helen Sheeran Welter. Dot was a lifelong area resident. She worked for Fuller Brush Company, Eastern Tablet, Hickory Farms and more recently for the former Boston Store from where she retired. Dot loved being a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed her pets, music, singing, bowling, cooking, crocheting and gardening. She was known by many for her great guidance and advice, for always listening and helping others. "She was the best!" Dot was the beloved wife of the late Martin J. Welch, Jr. for 43 years until his passing in November of 2000. She is the devoted and loving mother of Michelle L. Welch, Maureen (Neal) Whitcomb and the late Martin J. Welch,III. Dorothy is the loving sister of Joan Corliss and sister-in-law of Judy (Mike) Salisbury. Also surviving are many special nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. She was predeceased by her siblings: Jimmy, Joe, Harold, Helen, Kate, Loretta and Agnes.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. Clare's Church, Colonie at 9:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
