Clifton Park- Douglas W. Edwards, 70, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 18, 2017. Born in Howes Cave, NY on June 26, 1946, he was the son of the late Sidney and Ina (Cater) Edwards. Douglas served his country honorably in the US Navy. After his service, Doug was employed at General Electric in Schenectady for a short time. He then became a Police Officer for the Albany Police Department. Doug was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan and enjoyed trying his luck at casinos. Doug was known to be the cook of the family with his specialty being Chicken Cordon Bleu. Referred to as "Big Papa," Doug had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Colleen (Kelly) Edwards; his children: Darci (Mike Krey) Edwards, Douglas (Kathy) Edwards, Jr. and Adam (Shana) Edwards; his step-daughters: Michelle (Steven) Sabol, Nichole (Steve) Katz and Danielle Major; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by siblings: Shirley, Ray, Richard and Stanley.
Doug's family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Community Hospice of Schenectady County and Mohawk Ambulance for their loving and compassionate care.
Visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday, March 23 at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Friday, March 24 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
