GUILDERLAND-Douglas Ermides, age 60 of Guilderland, NY died peacefully at home on Friday, August 16, 2013 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle against esophageal cancer.
Doug was a life-long resident of Guilderland, NY. He was the son of Savas and Marylou Ermides. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 40 years Mary Ermides; his cherished daughters Kate (Ermides) Breilein and Kristen Ermides; sisters Deborah (Ermides) Marchewka and Christine (Ermides) Bezotte.
Doug enjoyed life to its fullest and excelled at everything he did. As Vice President of Sales for Shepard Bros, Inc. he was well known and respected for his depth of knowledge and understanding of the Para transit bus industry. In his personal life, Doug loved to cook and every meal was a masterpiece accompanied by the perfect bottle of wine. He was a vintage car enthusiast carefully restoring his precious cars. Doug was an expert skier and loved nothing better than to float through piles of snow.
His first passion was fly fishing. Doug was an unparalled trout fisherman and could make fish rise to the fly. Doug had a special "elan" that allowed him to touch the minds, hearts and lives of countless people.
We will celebrate Doug's life with memorial calling hours from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie, NY.
