Douglas R. Miller

October 25, 1953 — November 10, 2023

Douglas R. Miller (70) of Guilderland, NY, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023, surrounded by family after facing the challenges of living with Parkinson's disease and cancer.

Doug was born October 25, 1953, to Bernice and David R. Miller, Sr. in Utica, NY. Doug married his best friend, Paula (Morgan) on October 26, 1974.
Doug served as a member of the Army Reserves for 15 years. He earned degrees in Business Management and Economics with a concentration in Health Care Administration. Doug took great pride in his successful career and retired as Vice President of the Senior Living Division for St. Peters Health Partners. Doug held executive level positions in the health care field, including development and operations of Skilled Nursing Facilities, independent living, assisted living, and memory care for 43 years. Doug has been recognized for his achievements both locally and nationally.

Doug was also involved in many volunteer activities, in which he was an advocate for people with disabilities. Doug was on the Center for Disability Services Board for over 24 years, serving as Chairman of the Board for two terms. Doug, as a member of the Centers Executive Committee played a significant role in the merger of ROI and the Center for Disability Services, bringing together two large agencies to provide services to hundreds of individuals. Along with his son, he spearheaded Explorer Post Eight, a scout troop for young adults with disabilities.
Everyone who knew Doug, would agree that he was the epitome of a genuine person. Doug's personality, charm, sense of humor and wisdom was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

Doug was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and Grampie. Although he had three biological children, he served as a father figure for many. He loved his family and along with his wife, they worked hard to provide for them. Doug enjoyed the outdoors, vacationing with family and friends, working on various home projects, and cherished the time he spent with his family.

Doug is predeceased by his son Christopher (June 25, 2023); his granddaughter Georgi; his mother, father and several aunts and uncles. Doug is survived by his best friend and wife of forty-nine years, Paula; his daughters Stacey (Chadd) Ryan and Katie (Henry) Rice; his grandchildren, who will miss him greatly, Lilly, Maddox, Ben, Bruce, and Maggie; his siblings, David R. Miller, Jr. (Nancy), Sally Theadore (Fred), and Scott Miller (Laura); many nieces and nephews, and friends.
