GUILDERLAND, NY – Douglas T. Adamson, 83, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a long illness. He was born in Troy, NY and attended the public schools in that city, graduating from Troy High School in 1944. After service in the U.S. Navy in World War II, he attended Albany Business College and then the State University of New York at Albany, graduating in 1953. Mr. Adamson taught at East High and Benjamin Franklin High Schools in Rochester, NY and was awarded a M. Ed. Degree from the University of Rochester in 1956. He joined the State University Agricultural and Technical Institute at Delhi, NY and became Chair of the Business Technology Division. In 1960, he joined the New York State Education Dept. as an Associate in Business Education and in 1967 was awarded a Commissioner's sabbatical leave for advanced study at Syracuse University. He later served five years as Director of Occupational (Vocational) Education, retiring in 1983. Mr. Adamson had an active and committed interest in the Episcopal Church, serving several terms as Warden, Parish Treasurer, Lector and Server of the Chalice at St. Andrew's of Albany and St. Boniface of Guilderland. In addition, he served two terms on the Commission on Ministry and three terms as Treasurer for the Episcopal Diocese of Albany. He was a member of the New York State American Legion, and since 1953 of Apollo-King Solomon's Lodge #13, F. & A. M. Mr. Adamson had an avid interest in computers as well as fishing from Ampersand Bay at Lower Saranac Lake for over twenty-five years. He is survived by his sons, John V. Adamson of Smyrna Beach, FL and Thomas D. (Jean) Adamson of Delmar, NY; his daughter, Judith A. (Edward) Zyniecki of Guilderland as well as three grandchildren, Loren and Dylan Zyniecki and Julie Adamson; a sister, Florence D. Snell of Clifton Park, NY and his close companion, Judith Miller. His brother, William D. Adamson predeceased him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Episcopal Church, Guilderland. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Episcopal Church, 5148 Western Ave., Guilderland, NY 12084 in memory of Douglas T. Adamson.
