Dr. David J. Walczyk, EdD, 55
BROOKLYN- Dr. David J. Walczyk, 55, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, July 28, 2023 at NY Presbyterian- Brooklyn.
David was born on December 20, 1967 in Schenectady and was the son of Mary J. Walczyk (Hill) and the late Michael J. Walczyk and predeceased by his brother Michael J. Walczyk, Jr.
David earned a Bachelor Degree from the College of Saint Rose where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He continued his education at Columbia University in New York where he earned two Masters and a Doctorate in Education. Early in his career he worked at General Electric (GE) Research and Development where his Human-Centered Designs won two awards. David held positions on the Board of Directors for Pratt Institute, Buckminster Fuller Institute and the C.G. Jung Foundation.
Among his many accolades, he was the founder of the Center for Design and Consciousness. He also served as a visiting scholar at the United States Library of Congress, a Policy Fellow at the United States National Academy of Sciences, and co-authored the evaluation criteria for the Buckminster Fuller Challenge, which was named "Socially Responsible Design's" highest award by Metropolis Magazine. David was a Professor at New York University who just celebrated his 20th anniversary and was once named a Teacher of the Year. He previously taught at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
As he continued to teach, he studied to become a Psychoanalyst with the C.G. Jung Institute of New York. He spent his last 6 years running a successful private practice.
He never stopped learning, everything he read was to continue to grow. David was an avid bicyclist. He was a lifelong Red Sox and Celtics Fan. He was an advocate for animals and especially loved cats including his own Autumn and Winter. One of his greatest passions was music and he was always ready for a concert. David was known for sharing his love of music. Ultimately, he took greatest pride in being able to help so many others that came into his life.
David is survived by his mother Mary J Walczyk (Hill), and his sister Tracey Pause (Walczyk), and his brother-in-law John Pause and nephew Alexander Pause. Also, many Friends, Colleagues, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Relatives, Colleagues and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, August 8 from 4-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie There will be a celebration of life at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 9th at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Albany Rural Cemetery.
