ALBANY-Dr. Frank Anthony Lizzi, age 73, entered into eternal life Tuesday, March 26th, 2013. Born September 26th, 1939 in Albany, NY, he was a lifetime resident.
Frank's lifelong passion for medicine and knowledge made him a dedicated and beloved physician. He worked tirelessly to treat his patients. His kindness, compassion and gentle nature was of tremendous support to his patients and family alike. He was a graduate of both Siena and Albany Medical Colleges. Frank completed his Internship and Fellowship in Hematology at Albany Medical College and his Residency at Tuft's School of Medicine in Boston. He was Board Certified in Hematology and Internal Medicine. A veteran, Frank served as an Internist and Hematologist at the US Army Hospital in Fort Gordon, Georgia; Attending Hematologist at Albany Medical Center; Chief of Hematology at St. Peter's Hospital; and later, ran his own private practice. He had several articles published in medical journals throughout his career. Frank was a gifted and natural teacher. During his career, he greatly enjoyed instructing students at Albany Medical College, St. George's University School of Medicine, Grenada; and most recently, at Branford Hall Career Institute. Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He had a very strong faith and was a communicant of the Parish of Mater Christi in Albany.
Beloved husband of the late Theresa Mary (DeStefano) Lizzi of Albany; son of the late Catherine Bolognino Lizzi and Joseph A. Lizzi of Albany; brother of Joseph A. Lizzi (Karen) and John M. Lizzi (Cindy) of Albany. Cherished father of Ann Marie F. Lizzi Rizzo (John) and Andrea M. Lizzi, both of Albany; and adored grandfather of Loughlin Francis and Tessa Marie Rizzo, of Albany. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, Tuesday morning at 8:30am and 9:30am at the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell Street, Albany. Relatives, friends, patients and colleagues are respectfully invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home Monday 3 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
