Dr. Twu Liao

GUILDERLAND - Dr. Kun Twu Liao, age 83, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He was born in 1932 to Wan-New and Ye-How (Lee) Liao in Erlun Township, Yunlin County in Taiwan.

Kun attended National Taiwan University College of Medicine and earned his MD in 1958. On Christmas Day in 1959, Kun married the love of his life, Grace Yasin Yen, and they spent the next 53 years happily side by side. They had 3 children: Angela, Jimmy, and Marjorie. Kun came to the United States in 1963 to do his residency at Johns Hopkins, and his family followed a year later. They moved to St. Louis County in 1969, where they were active in their community, especially with the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church. Kun was also the president of the North American Taiwanese Medical Association. He spent a long tenure as a clinical pathologist at Smith Kline and at Wood River Hospital, IL. After his beloved Grace passed away in 2013, Kun moved to Albany, NY to live with his daughter, Angela, and her family. He then found a welcoming community at Lynnwood Reformed Church. Kun was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather.

Kun leaves behind many loving family members and friends, including his children and their families: Angela Urdanoff and Chuck Zarriello and her sons, Spenser and Alex; Jimmy and Grace Liao and their children, Meg, Stefan, and Henry, and Meg's children, Elise and Adelyn; Margie and Andy Leith and their daughters, Sachi and Lucy; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Kun was predeceased by his wife and his parents.

A celebration of Kun's life will be held at Lynnwood Reformed Church in Schenectady, NY on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Lynnwood Reformed Church and to the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church of Greater St. Louis.
