ALBANY – On December 4, 2013 and surrounded by his family, Dr. Louis P. Gagliardi, 70, passed away after a heroic battle with cancer. Raised in Scotia and Albany, Lou had strong ties to the Capital District. He attended Christian Brothers Academy (Class of '61) and after completing medical school and residency at Albany Medical College, he began his 30-year practice in OB/GYN.
Being a modern Renaissance man, his love of the finer things in life included sports cars, golf (even the less than perfect rounds), and restaurants with good wine; all enjoyed while being impeccably dressed. He was known to say "life is too short" and always worked as hard as he played, enjoying bringing new life into the world as well as being an ardent NY Yankees fan.
Known as Louis, brother, Dad, Nonno, Dr. Lou, Dr. G, Louie, and Lou, his main objectives were to love and care for his family, his friends, and his patients.
Son of the late Victor Gagliardi, Sr. and Philomena Almy-Cowley, Lou is survived by his brother Victor, wife of 27 years Suzy Gagliardi, his daughters Alyse Segovia (Jose) and Kate Vrooman, grandchildren Riley and Sophia, and loving partner Donna Parisi.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, December 8, from 6-9pm, at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road Colonie, NY 12205. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am, Monday, December 9, at Saint Francis Assisi, 391 Delaware Avenue in Albany. Interment will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland.
Although the PGA may take contributions, in lieu of flowers please donate in Lou's name to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
