Dr. Peter Joseph Ficalora, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday November 5, 2021 with his loving family by his side. He was the son of the late Anthony and Margaret Ficalora. Peter was the devoted husband to Marilyn M. Ficalora, celebrating 60 years of marriage this summer.
Peter was joyfully reunited with his eldest child Dr. Anthony Ficalora who passed away in 1989.
In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by his children, Kathy Pontes, Jacqueline Ferraro, Christopher Ficalora and Peter Ficalora; grandchildren Emma, Anthony, Marc, Peter, Julia, Luke, Olivia, Amelia and Anthony; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Peter was a tenured professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He also taught at Syracuse University and did research at the nuclear labs in Tennessee. Peter earned his PhD, obtaining his education at Manhattan College, Penn State and Rice University.
Peter was an avid fisherman and wood worker. He was an active member of his church and spent time volunteering at the Peace Pagoda and other charitable organizations.
A celebration of his life will be planned for the spring of 2022.
