SCOTIA – Dwain L. Hitchcock, 79, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. Dwain was born on October 29, 1931 in Gloversville and was the son of the late Reginald and Reba Hitchcock. He worked many years as a dental lab technician. Dwain joined the Army during the Korean War, serving in Japan. He played minor league baseball in 1951 and was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed playing golf and hit a hole-in-one in 2001. Dwain enjoyed camping and fishing and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was known for his unique sense of humor, always making everyone laugh. Dwain is survived by his longtime and devoted companion of thirty years, June Russell ,and his children, Glenn (Jenny) Hitchcock, Greg Hitchcock, Sue (Tony) Danna and June's children, including Rory Russell, Brenda (Brian) Kniskern, Jay (Tina) Russell and Trent (Karen) Russell. Also surviving is her sister, Ginny McCue and several grandchildren and nephews. Dwain was predeceased by his brother, Don Hitchcock.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family has requested that instead of flowers, memorial contributions should be sent to your local hospice in memory of Dwain L. Hitchcock.
