E. Florence Hess

E. Florence Hess was born in Honea Path, South Carolina on September 9, 1923, the daughter of the late J. Florence Freeman and Roy Gambrell. She was raised in Princeton, SC and was a graduate of Belton-Honea Path High School.
She was a 1944 graduate of the Anderson County Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and was a registered staff nurse at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood, SC. She was also employed at the Oakridge Atomic Installation, Oakridge, Tennessee. She then was employed for many years as a staff and supervisory nurse at the Cohoes Memorial Hospital, Cohoes, NY. Her last place of employment was at Johnstown Hospital, Johnstown, NY.
Mrs. Hess was a member of the Danish Sisterhood, Troy, NY and the Princeton Baptist Church, Princeton, SC. She was married to Bruce G. Hess on July 29, 1945. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Lynda (Robert) Nevulis of Niskayuna, NY and Mrs. Dixie (William) Stevens of Mechanicville, NY and by two grandchildren: Robert B. Nevulis and Leigh Stevens and her partner (Jolene Johnston).
In addition to being a great mother, wife and nurse Florence was an accomplished seamstress and made all of Lynda and Dixie's clothes growing up, and she also was talented at doing cross stitch/ afghans/ quilts and many other items that we will treasure forever.
Florence's family would very much like to thank the entire staff at Eddy Village Green & (house #5), Cohoes, NY for the kind, loving, and compassionate care Florence received during her residence at the Eddy Village Green over the last few years.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Florence in a special way may make a memorial contribution in Florence's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 4 Pine West Plaza, No. 405, Albany, NY 12205 or the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Schenectady, NY 12302.
In accordance with Florence's wishes all services will be private at the convenience of the family.
