COLONIE – Ed Blackman, 76, of Colonie, passed away on Friday December 28, 2012 at Albany Medical Center. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Edson L. Blackman and Mary W. Willey.
Ed was a school bus driver for the South Colonie School District for forty one years. He was a member of the Clifton Park Elks, Midway Fire Dept. and the Fuller Rd. Fire Dept. Ed enjoyed bowling and collecting model cars. He frequented car shows and took pride in maintaining his trucks.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Kathy Hawley of Colonie and her son Brian Hawley; his daughter Debbie Cowart of Ft. Myers, FL and his grandson, Jessy Cowart. Ed is the brother of Patricia Macejka, Bud (Micki) Blackman and Richard (Brenda) Willey. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his canine companions, Sandy and Benny.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Albany County Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care of Ed.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 11:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave Menands, NY 12204 in memory of Ed Blackman.
