Edward A. Frye, 71, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on January 13, 2023, with his wife of 48 years, Mary, by his side.
Ed's pride and joy were his sons, Peter, Tim (Sara Kate) and Andy. He was a wonderful father who spent many hours playing backyard sports with his sons and their friends and went on to coach both baseball and basketball teams. Ed was also a loving grandfather who took great pleasure in his grandchildren Ivy Frye, Lyle Frye, Riley Cusack and Gage Nadeau. In addition, Ed is survived by his aunt, Agnes Soules, and his uncle, Emerson (Bob) Hulsopple who he loved dearly and with whom he shared many happy times and memories.
During his teenage years Ed caddied at Shaker Ridge Country Club where he developed a passion for golf and became an excellent golfer. He was an avid, lifelong Green Bay Packer and Yankee fan who rarely missed watching a game, made many trips to Green Bay training camp and always looked forward to the NFL draft with great anticipation which he prepared for by conducting a thorough analysis of all the prospects. Ed also enjoyed many hours fishing from his boat in his favorite place - Lake George. And Ed never met a dog that he didn't like. Over the years he had many beloved dogs who were very important family members that Ed spoiled with long walks and samples of his gourmet cooking.
Ed was an incredibly hard worker and brilliant analyst. He earned a BS in Economics and a Master's degree in Econometrics from SUNY Albany. Ed's first career was as an economist. He was an energy forecaster for the New York State Energy Office and, later, for the state of Indiana at Purdue University. Upon returning to NYS, Ed continued to work in his field as a consultant and started down a path which led to his second career which incorporated his love for sports. In 1996 he helped to establish a youth baseball travel league, Eastern NY Travel Baseball (ENYTB), which initially had eight teams. As the president of ENYTB Ed worked tirelessly to enhance and expand the league which ultimately transformed youth baseball in the region and became a full-time job. Over the years the league grew to over 200 teams encompassing not only the Capital Region, but also teams from all areas of eastern NY as well as VT, MA and Canada. Between the summer and fall baseball seasons over 3500 ENYTB baseball games are played annually, including several major tournaments at local fields and Joe Bruno Stadium.
Both Ed and his family have been very grateful for the outstanding and compassionate medical care that he received throughout his illness from the Community Hospice team, Dr. Kambam and the staff at NYOH, Dr. Kyle Denniston and the staff of St. Peter's Radiation Oncology, and Dr. Laura Pica.
Visitation will be take place on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie NY 12205.
